David Bradstreet and Nancy Simmonds have co-produced a new collection of Colleen Peterson tunes. For more news about this exciting new project and purchasing info , go to Colleen's website.
from the album notes:
"I was playing Hugh's Room in Toronto recently and during the break, Nancy Simmonds walked in with a green Calton guitar case in hand. I was delighted to see her - it had been years. As the owner of a similar odd-coloured white guitar case, I was curious so I asked her about the case and the guitar cradled inside.
"Colleen's", she said, smiling.
We started to work together on several studio projects, as well as playing live as "The Geezers", so I was pleased when she asked me to co-produce "Postcards from California".
These songs, most of them written by Nancy and Colleen, had been originally recorded in California on an 8-track cassette machine, intended only as song demos. But as musicians know, some of our best and most relaxed performances are on our home demos. The challenge was to preserve and restore Colleen's stunning voice and her guitar and to replace or add to the original instrumentation. We enlisted the help of some of Canada's best musicians and singers who admire Colleen as much as we do. We did our best to play with her wonderful internal groove as if she was in the studio singing with us during those sessions. On more than one occasion I felt Colleen watching over my shoulder...
Thanks to all who helped us with this recording, and especially to Nancy & Shirley for entrusting me with this wonderful project. Nancy has been the driving force here - from the meticulous original recording to the inspired songwriting. Without her talent and guidance, this would not have happened. Colleen's friend through it all.
At every step I asked myself what Colleen would want - You are holding in your hand what I hope are the answers."
- David Bradstreet, June 2004
