THE LAND BEYOND ©2020
music: ©David Bradstreet
lyric: Robert Priest
Am
Well the porthole was my window
C
and the top bunk was my bed
G
as off the starboard railing
Am
I hung my sea-sick head.
Am
And all was forward motion
C
the rocking clock of the sea,
G
we crossed the Atlantic ocean
Am G Am
Mother, Father, Sister and me.
Yes we left our little island,
London town where life began.
I swore I'd never forget her
as we waved goodbye to Nan.
Oh we sailed the rolling sea lanes,
and watched the marker buoys bob.
My mother left her mother
Dad came looking for a job.
G
With one land way behind us
and another way beyond
F
and in between was ocean
E Am
our ship sailed on and on…
Well I couldn’t bring my playthings
Old Teddy and my toys.
There was baggage room for just one thing
so I had to make a choice.
Yes I had to pick one item,
one treasure I could bring -
so I chose my little banjo uke
because I loved to sing.
We left one land behind us
for another way beyond
and in between was ocean
our ship sailed on and on…
we saw icebergs off of Greenland,
a school of whales swam by.
We entered the Saint-Lawrence
and heard the sea gulls cry.
All down that mighty river
it thrilled me to my core -
fourteen days to old Quebec
I finally stepped ashore.
There was one land way behind us
And another way beyond
and in between was motion
our train rolled on and on…
And on that train to Toronto
I thought of my dear Nan,
my grandmother so far away
from this grand mysterious land.
Well the years rolled by in Toronto -
new life, new friends and yet
I still pluck that old banjo uke
and I know I’ll never forget.
Always one dream way behind me
and another one way beyond
and in between was music
life rolls on and on and on…

HINDSIGHT 2020
©2021 David Bradstreet/Subterranean Mus!c
C G
We sheltered there in our safe home
F
the family locked indoors alone
C G
and unaware the children played
F
in our front room day after day.
Am Em
How did we get to this dark place?
F
Could we have helped to change the pace
Am Em
of creeping danger tough to see
F D
the insane lies and halted dreams?
G D
Take another look around
C
and marvel at your empty town
G D
this hindsight 20/20 might
C
avoid the blinding future fight…
C G
The brave essential workers fed
F
us hope despite the luck that led
C G
to broken hearts and faded jobs
F
the shocking hum of human mobs.
Am Em
It lasted so much longer than
F
we thought it would when it began.
Am Em
We shelter here up on the hill
F D
we trust the scientific will…
G D
can set us free to walk in sun
C
hand in hand the future run,
G D
to dance beneath the wounded sky
C
with fewer minds to wonder why…
C G
I want to say to every child
F
who won’t recall a world defiled,
C G
I hope you get the chance to be
F D
the ones who try to set us free…
G D
So set us free to walk in sun
C
hand in hand the future run,
G D
to dance beneath the wounded sky
C
with fewer minds to wonder why.
G D
Ah set us free to walk in sun
C
hand in hand the future run,
G D
to dance beneath the open sky
C
with saner minds to wonder why…

TEMPLE MOMENT SANCTUARY ©210129
music: ©David Bradstreet
lyric: Robert Priest
F
I duck down into my soul
C
cut free my thoughts just let them flow
F
cut loose the stories watch them drift
C
those heavy feelings I let them lift
Bb F
all things pass, they’re temporary
C C7 F
in my temple moment sanctuary
I breathe down into my skin
I breathe out fear from deep within
untie my worries let them fly
I open the door and say goodbye
all things pass they’re temporary
in my temple moment sanctuary
C F
let fall those leaves, let them scatter
C F
just for now they do not matter
Bb F
no blinding light, no load to carry
C C7 F
in my temple moment sanctuary
my brow is smooth for just a while
I sink down allow my smile
forget my hurry think release
breathe into my heart, breathe out peace
all things pass, they shift and vary
in my temple moment sanctuary
C F
lay down the load, the weight I carry
C C7 F
in my temple moment sanctuary
Bb F
all things pass, they’re temporary
C C7 F
in my temple moment sanctuary

A QUESTIONING MIND
©2021 David Bradstreet/Subterranean Mus!c
instr. intro
A Eadd4 A
We started out questioning
E13sus4 E7
we ached to find the truth
A Eadd4 A
with everything that we all said
E13sus4 E7
we stumbled through our youth
G
We made some fool mistakes back then
D
But didn’t let it show
C
we paid the price of ignorance
Esus4 E7
a debt that I still owe…
Years ago we sailed across
the Southern Ocean blue
A quest for new horizons
that challenged all we knew
And what we sought in leaving
we found returning home
We left not quite believing in
our strength out on our own.
D C#m
We laughed ‘til we cried
Bm A
and cried ‘til we laughed
F#m E
Leading one another
D
down an unfamiliar path
D C#m
We cried ‘til we laughed and oh
Bm A
we laughed ‘til we cried
F#m E
Showing one another
D A
a questioning mind
instr.
Many times we looked so hard
But sometimes failed to see
Discussing all those nagging doubts
we never quite agreed
and hanging on false promise or
believing the big lie
is not worthy of the gift we got
of a questioning mind
But it’s alright, ‘cause now I know
we landed right on cue
Arriving here on solid ground
and standing next to you
You’ve given me the answer
although it took some time
to find our way in this world
with a questioning mind
We laughed ‘til we cried
we cried ‘til we laughed
Leading one another
down this undiscovered path
We cried ‘til we laughed and oh
we laughed ‘til we cried
Showing one another
a questioning mind

I THOUGHT I KNEW
©2021 David Bradstreet/Subterranean Mus!c
Intro: ||:G///|////|F///|////:||
G
In the time before we met
F
I looked for you so long
G
I made my way down countless roads
F
to find the perfect song
Then late one night in Dover town,
you found me on the beach
The lake so calm, the rippled moon
just barely out of reach
C Am Em G
But I thought I knew
C Am Em G
what a whispered word could do
Two can choose the favourite game
when we hold a pair of hearts
You kept your hand close to your chest
I played my highest cards
Yeah I thought I knew
what a winning hand could do
F
And at the moment that I found you
I felt it deep inside
D
and saw the future coming
like the rising of the tide
We walked next day in Dover town
I reached to hold your hand
You said to me “this feels like home”
the wish became the plan
Yes I thought I knew
what a winning hand could do
Oh I thought I knew
what a winning hand could do
